Keshi is derived from the Japanese word “poppy seed”. Sometimes, Keshi is also known as the seed pearl. In fact, these pearls might be little bigger than a grain of sand. Origin of these pearls is from saltwater or freshwater shells.

When I came to know about the formation of Keshi pearls, I found it even more interesting. Yes, this category of pearl is formed inside the shell in a very unique way. Growth of this pearl can be seen by planting a bead nucleus into the oyster. This bead nucleus is naturally taken from the outer shell of clams. And, it is then formed to a regular round shape. Then bead of it will be implanted into the soft tissue of the mollusk. Upon placing the irritant inside the mollusk, the production of the nacre starts taking place.

When I first saw Keshi pearl, it looked unusually brighter in luster, because it has a solid nacre component. They are found in many shapes, but they are usually irregular in shape. Each one pearl is quite different than others. Layer on layer of pure nacre makes the Keshi a rainbow colored gemstone. What is more appealing about these pearls is that they are found to be very exotic and unique. I found them as the fashion accessories making the wearer more gorgeous in appearance.
